Prior to that, Barbara, along with her late husband, owned an advertising and printing business for over 20 years in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Barbara has also worked for The Insurance Company of North America in St. Louis, MO as a Commercial Automobile Underwriter; for the State Farm Insurance Agency in Rolla, MO as the Office Manager; and for Motors Insurance Corporation (a division of GMAC) Washington, DC as Claims Manager.

Barbara is a widow with one grown daughter and two grown sons and is active in her church serving as Treasurer and singing in both the Chancel Choir and with the Praise Band.
