April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and this year’s focus is on the dangers of hands-free devices. The common misconception is that hands-free devices make using a cellphone and other electronics while driving safe. Indeed, this idea is even given credence through the addition of hands-free technology in many new cars. Sadly, hands-free devices are not any safer to operate while driving than manual ones. In fact, research has found they pose a greater risk for distraction and increase the chances of causing car accidents.

If you or someone you love has been injured by a distracted driver, call 887-6-DUNCAN for a free consultation with one of our Little Rock car accident lawyers.

What is Distracted Driving?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has identified distraction as one of the leading causes of serious and fatal car accidents. Distraction can include:

  • Using a cell phone
  • Using talk-to-text and other hands-free devices
  • Adjusting GPS
  • Changing a radio station, CD, or MP3 player
  • Eating and drinking
  • Personal grooming

While these things may seem harmless, they greatly increase the risk of causing an accident and should be avoided when driving.
