If you were involved in a car accident, the other driver may try to avoid responsibility by claiming you were hovering in their car’s blind spot. However, modern cars are designed with adequate mirrors to eliminate blind spots, and it is only by failing to adjust mirrors that drivers create blind spots, which ultimately lead to accidents.

Here are some tips for eliminating the blind spots in your own vehicle:

  • Adjust the rear-view mirror so that it shows the full view out your rear window, not so that it shows the traffic in side lanes
  • Adjust your left side mirror so you can barely see the side of your car when your head is pressed against the driver side window
  • Adjust the right side mirror with your head leaned to the middle of the car, again stopping when you can just see the side of your car.
  • Always maintain good posture when driving–slouching throws off your views
  • Check for blind spots every time you drive. Watch a vehicle passing your vehicle on either side of your car. It should appear in your side-view mirror before it disappears from your rear-view mirror, and be visible in your peripheral vision before it disappears from your side-view mirror.

Doing this will help you avoid blind spot car accidents.
