Child Passenger Safety Week

Car accidents are the leading cause of fatal injury for children between the ages of one and 13. While it is not always possible to prevent car accidentsfrom occurring, there are steps that can be taken to protect your youngest passengers against serious and fatal injury. One of the most reliable steps is to ensure your child is in the appropriate seat or booster, and that safety restraints are being properly used.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that as many as 80 percent of car seats and boosters are not properly installed. That’s why the NHTSA has launched National Child Passenger Safety Week, a campaign intended to highlight the necessity of proper restraint-use in cars, and to provide parents with the resources they need to make the safest decisions.

September 20th is National Seat Check Saturday, a part of Child Passenger Safety Week. A number of local organizations in Arkansas have volunteered to help parents properly install seats and boosters free of charge. Please visit SafeCar.Gov to find the station closest to you.
