Types of Burn Injury
Burns are classified by degree:
- First-degree burns are superficial, meaning the outer layer of skin has not been damaged. These burns do not generally require any medical intervention
- Second-degree burns occur when the damage extends below the second layer of skin. While these burns may seem minor, they can result in infection and other health concerns
- Third-degree burns, the most serious type of burn injury, occur when damage extends below the second layer of skin. Third-degree burns may damage muscles, nerves, bones, and joints, and often result in long-term consequences
No matter what type of burn you have sustained, you may be faced with medical expenses, an inability to work, home and lifestyle modifications, and untold amounts of pain and suffering. If your burn injury was the result of an accident, you may be entitled to seek significant compensation for these and related damages.
