A Questionable History
Exxon has a history of failing to properly inspect the Pegasus pipeline. In 2010, the company was cited by the Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration for neglecting to inspect a stretch of the pipeline between Missouri and Illinois for over eight years. This stretch runs underneath the Mississippi River and is but one of several sections in direct contact with watersheds and water sources. The pipeline rupture in Mayflower contaminated Lake Conway, though other water sources may now also be impacted.
